stress and your skin
~Stress and Your Skin~
😓Stress is a major cause of illness. Every system in your body can be affected by it, our skin included.
💪The fight or flight response is a way your body responds to stress. This response can have an effect on the skin. Here’s how: Our skin has a rich supply of blood vessels and whenever our body is faced with a stressful situation our blood vessels in our skin constrict tightly to protect the body from danger. For example, if you are in a situation where you get a cut, your blood vessels will constrict to help prevent too much bleeding.
Reactions like this are beneficial to the body when faced with dangerous situations. However, when you are chronically stressed out on a day to day basis, your skin will have a diminished blood supply, meaning it will have a harder time carrying out its duties, such as excreting toxins and obtaining the nutrients it needs to properly rejuvenate itself. De-stressing our lives is therefore very important when caring for our skin and ourselves in general.
✨One of the best things that I have ever done that has helped me to manage stress is to begin my self care journey. Self care is not just doing a face mask on Sundays, it is taking the time to explore who you are, what really matters to you, what you like , and what areas you need to improve, and work from there. It’s the act of showing yourself love, and not neglecting your needs, and most of all understanding that you need to take care of yourself. This way you will be able to accomplish what’s important to you and be able to better care for others. Understanding and addressing your self care needs is the beginning of any stress management routine. 💕
