see you later anxiety

🌻Self-care means taking the time to do things that improve both our physical and mental health.  But sometimes stress and anxiety stand in the way of us being able to take proper care of ourselves.

🌻As someone who has suffered from anxiety, here are a couple easy self-care tips I have been able incorporate into my daily routine that have really helped me feel calmer and more relaxed throughout the day.

1.     Pay attention to what your body is telling you. Paying closer attention to what’s happening with my body helps me to understand better what’s going on in my mind.  For example, noticing symptoms like my heart rate increasing or the start of a nervous stomach, helped me to realize that I was getting anxious and needed to address it before it got worse.

2.     Practice a mindfulness moment. Try to create your own mindfulness moment at some point in the day.  This is about creating a moment in the day where you can reconnect and feel at peace in the present.  Use your senses to pay attention to what is around you.  Do not think about the past or the future, just focus on the present.   I go for a walk in the evenings.  I focus on the trees, the birds and sometimes an occasional duck.

3.     Give yourself a time out. The day I realized this was one of the best days ever.  Just like how I ask my kids to please step out of the room, I step out of the room.🙃If I start to feel overwhelmed, anxious or irritated, I take a break.  Go outside for 5 minutes, go to your room and take a few deep breaths or if you’re at work, step away from your desk for a few minutes.

4.     Add more moments of joy to your day. I know there aren’t enough hours in the day.  But, what I mean here is try to make the activities you have to do more fun.  If you have to do laundry or cook, turn on your favorite music and dance.  If you’re at work all day, try to enjoy your lunch break (however best you can) .  Incorporate little changes that help you feel less irritated and more relaxed throughout the day.

I hope you fins this helpful.
