Chips or fruit
🍎🥑🥬Eating right is important for our health. But what does that mean? What makes certain foods the “right” foods?
🥗🍔Many factors can influence how we choose our food; for example the eating patterns of your culture, family or friends, time and convenience (not having the time to cook or shop for food), cost and availability (healthier foods are often more expensive and less available in some cases) and stress (eating foods high in fat or sugar to make us feel better).
🍔🍟🍕Unfortunately, we often find ourselves choosing more inexpensive, convenient, CALORIE DENSE foods, which are filled with added sugars and fats, which make them high in calories and low in nutrients. Overconsumption of these foods increases the risk for many chronic diseases.
🍎🍍🥗Healthy foods are considered NUTRIENT DENSE foods, they provide high levels of vitamins and minerals per calorie.
For example, if you compare a serving of fruit to a serving of chips, they provide around the same amount of calories BUT the fruit provides you with nutrients like fiber, vitamin C and others. The serving of chips provides you with with a whole lot of salt, a whole lot of fat and other not so nice stuff🤔.
🌤I love chips... so sometimes I cannot resist the temptation, BUT I know that if I want to make the right choices for my body, that will benefit me in the long run, I have to choose the fruit more often than I choose the chips. 🙂
